Carer of the Year 2017 Finalist – Amanda Bland

Mandy Bland is in the final for the care she provides to her autistic son as well as the wider autistic community providing support through her company, A Stitch Different.

Mandy not only cares for her autistic son she set up & runs A Stitch Different, A Community Interest Company, which makes therapy goods for disabled children.

lba17_carer_amanda-bland-resize-for-blogMandy helps to raise money for charities and recently organised a variety night to raise money and Autism Awareness. Following that she organised a massive balloon launch with entertainment for the kids, and taken part in the Rough Runner obstacle course to raise more money for Leonard Cheshire Youth group.

She also works part time at Stollers Furniture World, she says that’s her respite & break. Everyone she meets  benefits from her enthusiasm & commitment to the disability community.

Mandy, through A Stitch Different also tutors a young disabled lady and teaches her to sew, using special equipment donated through her company.

People who know her say “She’s just so kind, selfless & extremely generous with her time nothing is ever too much trouble.”
