Teacher of the Year Nominee – Vicky Logan

cheeky monkeyAnother week, another teacher of the year nomination – and the second teacher from Cheeky Monkeys Nursery!

Vicky works everyday from opening to closing time. she is a valued member of staff and loved by all parents and children who attend the nursery.

The nomination form says that Vicky goes beyond her duties to help run the nursery and often gives up her own time to help families in need and to make the nursery a better place.

Like so many of the Love Barrow Awards nominees, past and present, “Vicky is a person who never asks for anything in return and will do anything for anyone.”

Vicky is the Deputy Manager at the successful and popular Cheeky Monkeys Nursey – but goes beyond her duties and is not only a good manager, but a nursery nurse, carer and friend to all.

“Children at the nursery love her to bits and even cry whens it’s time for them to go home.”

That Phone Call…

Having been on the receiving end of the “Friday phone call” last year, whereby the Love Barrow Awards committee member told me that someone had nominated me as Citizen of the Year,  I thought I’d put down a few thoughts and memories of that day.

Completely out of the blue, the phone rang and the display showed “Unknown Number” – do I answer it? Another cold call telling me about my eligibility for PPI refunds? Enquiring about the “accident” I don’t remember having?

I answered it anyway. Some nice chap called “John” from the Love Barrow Awards, wanting to tell me that I’d been nominated – shocked was my initial response, then questions, Who? Why? What for?

At the end of the call, having been told I was invited to sample the red carpet treatment at the Forum for the awards evening, I was left with one of those warm fuzzy feelings. I’d done a fair bit of work voluntarily for the community, but reward was never on my agenda, however the fact someone had taken five minutes out to nominate me was a great feeling.

With the nominations now open for the 2015 awards, YOU have the opportunity to give someone that warm fuzzy feeling, everybody know somebody who has gone out of their way to help the lives of others in the Barrow area. By going to the nomination page you can submit an entry, or more than one, in any of the nine categories available at this years awards and hopefully generate another “Friday phone call”

Everbody knows somebody who goes that extra mile, have a think over the weekend and get ready to nominate – jsut being nomniated for such a prestigous award is a huge reward for people who give up their time freely to help others.
