Alec Moore MBE
At the age of twelve, Alec started helping out by knocking out the crew for rescues and helping out on the slipway at Barrow Lifeboat Station.
Alec’s lifelong involvement of over 42 years has led him to renown within the lifeboat service throughout the British Isles.

Oliver Booth
Oliver was diagnosed with a brain tumour when he was two years old and spent much of his early years in and out of hospital.
In September 2010, Oliver was named ‘Bravest Child’ in the Well Child Awards, having been selected out of hundreds of nominations from throughout the UK.
Oliver was described as an “Inspirational little boy who never lets life get him down.”

The Birchall Trust
A charity which works to support victim of rape and sexual abuse.
The charity is heavily dependant on trained counsellors giving their time on a voluntary basis free to service users.
Carer of the Year 2011
Thomas Trantor
At 13 years old, Thomas was his mum’s primary carer helping and reassuring her through her illness.
Thomas was described as ‘brave and caring‘ and ‘a wonderful example of a carer with out even realising it’

Nicky Brewerton
As the Headteacher at Ramsden Infants School, Nicky has helped the school consistently perform at a high level in all it’s OFSTED inspections and is well known for developing links between the school and the wider community.

Jordan Bradley
Jordan was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, aged 2 and has lived with the effects of the condition.
Despite undergoing operations, Jordan has always remained positive and been really thoughtful about those around him who he knows are dealing with it too.
Jordan was nominated by his Auntie, who described him as an “inspirational little boy“
Sports Volunteer of the Year 2011
Sonja Foster
Sonja has an excellent track record for encouraging others into sport and organising opportunities for people to participate in fun and healthy activities.
Sonja has been the organiser and trainer of the Race for Life and uses her enthusiasm and commitment to sport to help others participate and also raises funds for charity.
Ambassador Award 2011
Dave Coverdale
As Locality Manager for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, Dave was always willing to get involved in a wide range of activities to benefit the town.
In his role within Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service he was responsible for co-ordinating the response to the floods which hit Cumbria. His peers describe him as ‘passionate and hard working and always willing to try out new ideas‘ along with pointing out that Dave is willing to demonstrate leadership across organisational boundaries, which can often prove challenging.
When he won the Ambassador Award, Dave was Chair of Barrow Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and represented the partnership at the county level.
As a passionate Barrovian, he is always keen to promote the town and the work of agencies in the town throughout Cumbria and further afield wherever possible.
